Unfortunately, DUIs are extremely political and the police, DAs and judges are under a lot of pressure to get convictions. He always answered my questions even when I asked them over and over again. I never felt like he was talking down to me. He also spent a significant amount of time calming me down. It is unbearably depressing to know you are innocent and have the state tell you aren’t. He never pressured me to take the plea deal and I always felt that he believed me. The consequences of DUIs, even for a first offense, can be catastrophic and far outweigh the “crime”. There is no question that you are presumed guilty of a DUI in Virginia’s traffic courts.
