State v. John Doe
N/AOUTCOME: Case dropped
Out of state client called our firm because he had an outstanding warrant on a case that was a couple of years old. The client was being charged with Grand Theft for cashing checks that were written of ... f of a closed account. My client maintained that he did not know that the checks were not good. However, after much investigation, the State of Florida figured out my client might have been related to the owner of the closed account. Also, my client’s handwriting closely resembled the handwriting making out the checks. After much urging, I finally convinced the State that they did not have enough evidence to go forward. The State dropped my client’s charges. This was good for my client because he had an open immigration case and would surely have faced deportation with a plea or conviction on this case.
