Steven D. Costello

Steve focuses his practice in professional malpractice litigation, defending physicians, hospitals and long-term care facilities, as well as business litigation and medical device litigation. He has devoted more than 30 years of his legal career in handling civil litigation and consistently provides his clients with thoughtful, aggressive and effective representation.  The majority of his practice involves defending cases associated with catastrophic injury or death.  He has successfully represented numerous Fortune 500 companies and major hospitals, health care systems and insurance companies, having received nearly 150 defense verdicts.

Steve lectures frequently to lawyers and health care professionals on litigation, risk management and medical malpractice issues.  He is an active member of many local and national associations, including the Pennsylvania Bar Association where he served on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, Health Law Committee and the Interdisciplinary Committee on Medical and Health Related Issues.  He serves on the Long Term Care/ALF Committee for the Defense Research Institute.  In addition, he is a Fellow of the Academy of Advocacy and Master of the American Inns of Court.

Steve was recently selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2017 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. He was also named a 2016 Select Lawyer in Lehigh Valley and has been designated a Super Lawyer as published in Philadelphia magazine.

Prior to joining Saxton & Stump, Steve served as a Principal at Post & Schell in the Professional Liability Defense Department and Administrative Principal in their Allentown, PA office.
