Yes, in agreement with the attorney who answered before. The sooner you do it the better it is.
I had two asylum interviews in November and Dec 2018. However, today I got a letter from USCIS that my Nov interview cancelled.

You have to pay the fees if you are renewing. First work permit is free of any filing fees.
