Susan Nanes

Prior to joining Pond Lehocky, Susan Nanes spent seven years as a law clerk to Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. During that time, she researched and wrote over 50 majority, concurring, and dissenting opinions, and over 100 allocatur reports. 

Ms. Nanes has an extensive educational background. She holds a bachelor’s in American Studies from Barnard College of Columbia University, undertook graduate studies in history at Columbia University and Tulane University, and received her J.D. from Louisiana State University. While in law school, she was an editor of the Louisiana Law Review and received the Vinson & Elkins Award for Outstanding Student Comment.

She began her legal career as a law clerk for Judge Jefferson D. Hughes, III, in the Louisiana Court of Appeal, First Circuit. She was primary drafting clerk of 11 published opinions on various legal issues. She then went on to become the deputy chief law clerk to Judge Robert C. Daniels of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, where she researched and drafted over 30 memoranda and six published opinions.  She has also trained newly hired law clerks on the specifications of opinion writing to maintain high standards in the courts she has served. 

Ms. Nanes is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and Louisiana.
