Michael Anthony Laflame Jr.

Michael A. LaFlame, Jr. is a member of Flaster Greenberg’s Intellectual Property Department and Patent Practice Group.

Michael focuses on matters involving patent prosecution, strategies, and portfolio management. Mr. LaFlame works on matters in a variety of technologies with a focus on communications, machine learning, artificial intelligence, medical devices, software, control systems, mechanical devices, and electrical devices.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. LaFlame spent more than ten years as a primary patent examiner at the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) where he worked closely with applicants to process their applications and determine whether a patent can be granted. Mr. LaFlame also reviewed case files for the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, briefed judges on prosecution history, relevant issues, and summary of arguments, and drafted appeal decisions.

Michael also has experience in technologies including additive manufacturing, automotive, lasers, optics, semiconductor characterization and process analysis, antenna design and analysis, solid state electronics, nanotechnology, cyber security and computer science, medical imaging analysis, material science, and applied physics.

Mr. LaFlame has also worked as a patent attorney (of counsel) for a law firm in Maryland where he performed patentability searches, analyzed invention disclosures and technical documents, and prepared patentability opinions
