The judge can't just hand him a gun at the courthouse. The government doesn't always do things as quickly as we like.

It's certainly possible to avoid jail time, but there's no guarantee, even with a great attorney. These are pretty serious charges.

I would add that many courts won't consider early termination until probation is at least half done.

"date of disposition" would refer to the date of your conviction, not when you completed probation.
