Man charged with the class B felony of Stealing in the Howell County Circuit Court was acquitted after the jury deliberated for about 20 minutes. Jury found that the State failed to prove that the def ... endant intended to permanently deprive the alleged victim of a tractor trailer full of approximately $200,000 in goods. Attorney Adam Woody also presented a "claim of right defense", which is an affirmative defense. He used the State's own witnesses against them, and the jury believed that his client genuinely thought he had a right to the property.

Man charged in Jasper County Circuit Court with the class C felony of Statutory Rape in the Second Degree. 15 year old girl claimed to have sex with her basketball coach on three separate occassions a ... nd basketball coach confessed in writing. After discrediting the believability of the witness, as well as cross-examination of the police officers by attorney Adam Woody, many members of the jury believed the girl had made up the story and that the confession was coerced. The result was a hung jury, 11 members voting for not guilty and 1 held out for guilty. The State then amended the charge to a misdemeanor and offered the defendant a suspended imposition of sentence, meaning he was not even convicted of the misdemeanor.

OUTCOME: Acquittal Following Bench Trial

A brawl broke out at a college halloween party in 2007, which led to significant injuries to the face and jaw of one young man. Authorities charged a college student with kicking the injured person in ... the face while he was on the ground resulting in serious physical injury. He was chared with a class A felony, a felony which carries 10 years to life in prison. Only one witness claimed to be able to identify the person who kicked the injured individual. Upon cross-examination, however, Adam Woody was able to point out inconsistencies in the manner in which he described the kick compared to other witnesses. It was also brought out that there was another person at the party who was dressed exactly like the defendant and who resembled the defendant. After a three day bench trial with numerous witnesses, the Court acquitted the defendant of the very serious charge.
