Kevin P. McAliney came to the bar with a unique background. Following his graduation from College he joined the New York City Fire Department. Kevin began his career as a firefighter with a busy ladder company in the Corona/Elmhurst section of the City. Over the years he worked his way up through the ranks becoming first a Lieutenant and then a Captain. In New York City, being a Captain is not just an administrative job and he was expected to lead his firefighters into burning buildings. Over the years he was cited seven times for bravery and initiative and was on the scene of many disasters ranging from the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 to the infamous Happy Land fire which claimed the lives of 87 people.
In 1992 Kevin received his Juris Doctorate from St. Johns University after attending the evening law school program while still working full time for the FDNY.
Following graduation Kevin took and passed the N.Y., PA and Conn. Bar Exams. He is a member of the Bar of all three states. He remained with the FDNY for four more years while practicing law with two New York area law firms. There his practice included civil litigation, real estate and personal injury.
In 1996, Kevin retired from the Fire Dept. and began practicing law full time and represented clients in a wide variety of legal matters. His background with the FDNY was put to good use in representing clients in a variety of fire loss cases, building collapses and other property damage litigation. He also handled other matters such as auto accidents, slip and falls, insurance claims, construction accidents, product liability, wrongful death, subrogation and a variety of other matters. Kevin has represented corporate clients as well including Utility Companies, Manufacturers and Insurers.
In 1998 Kevin and his brother opened their own Law Firm of McAliney & McAliney, P.C. in Pittston Pennsylvania. The primary focus of the practice has been the representation of clients who have been injured in accidents or by defective products, work related injuries, social security claims and other civil litigation matters. Since the inception of their practice, Myles and Kevin have successfully represented hundreds of clients in the Courts of Common Pleas in counties throughout Pennsylvania and the Superior Court all the way up to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He has been a guest speaker at seminars sponsored by the International Gas Technologies Group and People’s Natural Gas Company and a presenter at Construction Law seminars.
