Attorney Corey D. O’Brien’s estate planning practice focuses on helping families enhance their lives today and secure their futures tomorrow. He excels in guiding his clients through the often-confusing maze of financial and legal decisions to create plans that ensure the well-being of their families and the accomplishment of cherished family goals. His considerable legal expertise includes family protection, wealth preservation, and value-based planning, as well as planning strategies for unmarried couples and divorced individuals. Whether you are married or single, with a traditional family or blended one, just starting out or looking back on a life well-lived, Corey will help you to craft a plan that achieves your goals for your loved ones today and for years to come.
Corey graduated cum laude from The Catholic University Columbus School of Law in 2000. After graduating from law school, Corey worked at a prominent Washington, DC law firm specializing in corporate law with an emphasis on financial institution mergers and acquisitions. Upon returning to Northeastern Pennsylvania, Corey was elected twice to serve as a Lackawanna County Commissioner, continued practicing corporate law and began developing the necessary estate planning skills to advise clients. Corey left the public sector in 2015 to serve as in-house general counsel for a national healthcare company where he led the mergers and acquisitions division of the company, among other responsibilities. Corey has been providing legal counsel for business planning and mergers and acquisitions for over 23 years.
Corey frequently speaks and lectures on estate planning topics including estate planning, kids protection planning, revocable living trusts, the pitfalls of probate and firearm protection planning. In addition to his law practice, Corey is the political analyst for WNEP-TV 16.
Most importantly, Corey is the proud father of Kate, Casey, Jacob and Luke. He is also the proud father to his mini-golden doodle (who is not very mini), Grover. Corey is also engaged to be married to the love of his life, Elisa DePolo, who has two kids of her own, Sophia and Jacob. Safe to say, Corey understands the dynamics of blended families.
