Those who know me well, know how committed I am to the practice of law. I am, and have always been, a full time attorney in Lackawanna County and I practice law in both the state and federal court system.
Initially, I represented Plaintiffs and Claimants, (for about twenty (20) years), however, for the last eight to nine years, I represent Employers, Companies and Corporations. Having represented both sides (Employees and Employers) in all types of litigation matters, I believe I bring a very unique outlook to the table when I provide advice to clients. I maintain a fair and diplomatic approach on all cases and work well with other attorneys to bring legal matters to conclusion whether that be through settlement, mediation, arbitration or trial.
In the past, I litigated Workers Compensaiton matters, Slip and Fall Actions, Motor Vehicle Cases, Product Liablity Cases, as well as all types of Employment Litigation & Consumer Class Actions. I continue to handle all types of employment law cases including Race, Sex, National Origin, and Religious discrimination under Title VII, Age Discrimination under the ADEA, leave issues under the FMLA, all types of Retaliation cases, overtime and wage violations under the PMWA and the FLSA, Workers Compensation, Civil Rights Violations, violations of Non-Compete Agreements, breach of Employment related contracts and all other employment related litigation in state and federal court. I also handle municipal matters, commerical litigation matters and I recently spent five months on Scranton City Council.
A stand out accomplishment for me was when I had an oral argument in front of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania where the Court sat, en banc, (as a whole) and was very active questioning the lawyers regarding the due process if law. In addition, my oral argument was also televised and was later used by the Commonwelath Court Judges as an example of "best appellate practices" for which I was very honored.
I continue to actively handle all administrative claims/complaints filed with the PHRC and the EEOC. I am very well versed in handling matters with the EEOC and PHRC, having answered many PHRC/EEOC complaints and having handled many fact-finding conferences and mediations with both the PHRC and the EEOC.
I am a certified mediator in the Middle District of Pa. and I have had much success in assisting other lawyers through either mediation and/or arbitration to bring their cases to a successful resolution.
Our firm is also commonly called upon to assist employers on many types of internal investigations. Our attorneys can either provide support/assistance to the individual in charge of handling the investigation, or in more complicated situations, we can take over the investigation, interview all witnesses, provide legal recommendations and employee discipline.
Our firm is committed to assisting employers in finding unique and cost effective solutions to employment issues and, to that end, many Employers in Northeast Pennsylvania, seek to retain our firm on an annual basis, under our unique retainer agreement arrangement. Under that arrangement we work very closely with Human Resource Offices and upper management - on a day to day basis - in order to provide proactive advice to prevent minor employment issues from turning into major and costly litigation matters. We also draft employment agreements, executive compensation agremeents and separation agreements just to name a few.
Our firm also offers a full range of training programs which many employers utilize on an annual basis to provide training to their employees. This training can be individualized to your workplace but in general some of our more popular modules include preventing harassment in the workplace, performance management training, violence in the workplace, civility in the workplace and a variety of other training modules, more fully described, on our website at .
