The driver of the Plaintiffs' vehicle could not avoid the semi in time and her vehicle struck the rear of the semi trailer, injuring her, killing her passenger and seriously injuring her two year old son in the back seat. Defendant's denied stopping on the shoulder of the highway and denied pulling out in front of Plaintiffs. The case proceeded to an 8 day jury trial in the Southern District of Iowa and the jury found the Defendants at fault and compensated Plaintiffs a total of more than 4 million dollars.
