Mr. Vasquez was injured when a screw flew underneath his safety glasses and struck him in his eye, causing him to lose partial vision. We sued the building owner and general contractor, alleging a fai ... lure to proper equipment as required by the Industrial Code. Defendants claimed that they complied with the Code as they provided the plaintiff with safety glasses. In response, we hired a nationally recognized safety construction expert who opined that under the circumstances of this case the defendants were required to provide plaintiff with safety goggles – as opposed to glasses – as only goggles would have prevented the screw from accessing his eye.

Last Christmas Eve (2008), my clients, a father and daughter, were taking a trip from their home in Orange County, when a pickup truck crossed a double yellow line, and slammed into their vehicle. The ... y were driving a small compact. The daughter, who had been sitting in the back seat, flew through the front widshield. The father was crushed into the steering wheel, fracturing most of the bones in his chest. He spent months in the hospital recovering. The daughter now has a scar from the top of her head to her eyebrow. They did nothing wrong and were now left with severe injuries. By that following July, before even starting a lawsuit, I was able to convince the insurance company for the pickup truck to offer its entire policy. I warned the insurance company that if they made me sue, thereby putting my clients thru more agony and grief by having to relive the accident, that I would no longer accept the policy limits and that I would then "go for it all". They took my threat seriously, as they should have, and they did the right thing. We were able to collect the full amount of the $500,000 insurance policy. My clients are great people and they did not deserve this -- I stil wish that I could have done more.

In 2014, an off duty police officer, who earlier had been drinking at the NYPD shooting range, was so drunk that he actually drunkenly shot at two innocent men who were on their way home from playing i ... n an amateur hockey game. The police officer, Brendan Cronin, ultimately pled guilty to attempted manslaughter. He shot the passenger six times, almost killing him, and nearly killed the driver of the vehicle. StolzenbergCortelli LLP, as co counsel, argued that alcoholism was running rampant in the NYPD and that it was time to make a change. The parties settled the case for $8.1 million prior to depositions.
