Dishonest incompetent

Most dishonorable pos lawyer I've ever seen coerced me into waving my right to a preliminary hearing ultimately destroying my defense in the case. Several months later I inform him the police never even had a warrant . In turn he files a very weakly written motion to suppress which is shot down by ...the judge and prosecution. I wanted to believe he was mearly incompetent but the further I look at what he's done it is very obvios he did it on purpose . He shouldnt just be disbared but locked up for treason . I wouldn't recommend anyone use this guy and all that have had problems should report him .

Billed over $500 after being fired to process his withdrawal from the case.

I had a horrible experience with Mr. Martin. He didnt submit evidence I presented to him. He even went so far as to try to bill me over $500 after I fired him. He issued a bill citing costs related to withdrawing from the case and billed two hours to write up his withdrawal and submit it to the court.... If you have had similar experiences please email me at [email protected]. I will be addressing this but would like to see if anyone else had had a similar experience with Mr. Martin. Also involved in my case was plaintiffs attorney Oressa Campbell, Master Christine Rechner, and Judge Meagher. Email me at [email protected] if you want a copy of the courts decision and Mr. Martins billing practices.

No frills

John Martin charged me a small fraction of what a large law firm wanted to settle my case. It was an easy win so I did not want to waste time and money on an attorney litigating things that do not matter, which is what they often do to rack up fees. He's a bit of a bull in a china shop as far as mann...ers are concerned, so he may not be right for you if you want someone with good communication skills to keep you informed throughout the process (and pay for that, too, as time is money), or if you want a strong litigator for your case (in which case good luck finding an attorney who will actually do that and be very prepared to shell out a lot of money for it). But if you want someone to simply get the job done then I'd say he's your go to. My best advice, and this applies to any attorney that I have ever used, is not to allow your emotions to influence your judgement when deciding what it is you wish to fight for in any legal matter. You feel that you want justice because you were wronged. But your best bet is the most quick settlement even though it will not include everything that you are entitled to receive. Then let it go and move on with your life. Otherwise, the reality is that you will end up wasting a ton of time and energy on the matter and lots of money on an attorney to fight to get everything you are entitled to (justice) and in the end you won't get everything anyway. Also, never believe everything an attorney tells you... they will "court you" saying whatever it takes to get you to hire them. Expect that they then will not do all that they say they will do, it will take longer to settle the matter than they tell you, you won't get as much money or whatever it is you are seeking as they say you will, and most of all never believe the price that they quote you.

Pros and Cons

He is cheap so he has that going in his favor in a very big way. As far as performance, I'd say he is okay. I've yet to meet an attorney who goes beyond OK even if they were expensive... some very expensive. So the adage that "you get what you pay for" is not always true. While I was not impressed wi...th anything that Martin did for me I was very glad not to have paid a lot of money for an attorney. So I would recommend him based on price alone. But I would also caution people that in many circumstances they do not need an attorney, such as a house closing. And that they should know their rights to file a motion, petition, claim on their own with the courts directly and without an attorney. I used an attorney in this circumstance because I simply did not want to dedicate the time for the paperwork and because I thought he would advocate for me, which he did not.
