I represented a customer that went to a local Raw Bar to eat and drink. He became intoxicated. He allegedly grabbed a waitress's rear. He was thrown out of the bar and an off duty bouncer beat him u ... p. I filed a lawsuit against the restaurant for failing to protect him. I tried this case in front of a jury in Mecklenburg county. The jury gave a verdict of $5320 for his injuries and $15,760 in punitive damages. The Raw Bar appealed to the NC Court of Appeals and was upheld. This case expanded the law of punitive damages in N.C. to include managers of a business and not just owners.
