Colyn v. Standard Parking
Dec 15, 2016OUTCOME: $38.25M jury verdict
On December 15, 2016, a Seattle jury awarded Thyce and Amy Colyn a record $38.25 million against Standard Parking and one of its valet drivers for hitting and permanently injuring Thyce in October 2012 ... while he commuted home from work on his bicycle. They were represented by David Beninger and Patricia Anderson of the Luvera Law Firm. Standard Parking, one of North America’s largest parking and valet companies, had no safety policies or training program to ensure that its valets understood and followed the rules for safely sharing the roads with cyclists. When he hit Thyce, the valet was using an illegal shortcut used by all of Standard’s valets and condoned by Standard’s management to retrieve cars that Standard had recently started parking off-premise to maximize profits. Thyce was an avid cyclist who had logged over 200,000 commute and recreational miles on his bike. He suffered permanent injuries including a brain injury, shattered hip, shoulder and nerve injuries. He'll never ride a bike again, and even with future hip replacement surgery will never walk in the community without pain and assistance. Read more at www.luveralawfirm.com
