NCDOT condemned a portion of an industrial site for a new exit ramp on a highway widening project. Though the amount land taken was relatively small the taking eliminated legal access along one of the ... three roads on which the property abutted. NCDOT valued the taking of the land at approximately $49,000. The case was tried to a jury and the total judgment after verdict, including interests and costs charged to DOT, was $250,000.
