On the third day, after both sides had presented our witnesses and evidence, defendant's insurer approached us with a settlement offer that resolved the case.

In this case, I represented a favorite local allergist in his efforts to overcome a non-competition covenant that his prior employer intended to use to keep him from working locally in his professional ... specialty. We tried the case in October 2015, and ultimately earned a bench verdict declaring the covenant void and unenforceable. This allowed my client, an excellent physician and dedicated civic leader, to stay in his community and perform high quality medical care.

This case was a tragic wrongful death and malpractice action against a physician staffing the Western State mental hospital in Staunton, VA. The Augusta County judge dismissed the case for a sovereign ... immunity issue, and I handled all aspects of the appeal, earning a reversal by the Virginia Supreme Court. The case eventually settled.
