As attorney Behar stated, it is not feasible. Make sure you work closely with your employer's immigration attorney.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months prior to processing a visa, so probably not a good idea.

Because you are only an LPR, it could take up to 3 years for the process to be completed. He can continue to work through the validity of his E2 visa.
