Being charged with a crime is a life changing event. Fear, shock, being scared, extremely concerned, worried, terrified of the unknown, will I lose everything from my family to my job to my house, are all initial words stated and words truly felt by clients I have represented and helped over a 25 year legal career of private criminal defense. These feelings are very real and gut wrenching for any person charged with a crime. When I agree to represent a new client, I make it my priority to answer these questions and alleviate the anxiety these feelings bring to people charged with a crime. How hard a lawyer works, prepares, studies, strategizes, negotiates, convinces, relates, and listens to all aspects of a case makes the entire difference as to what outcome and result can be achieved for each client. The attorney/client relationship is one of the strongest bonds that exists in our society, and it is my pledge to every client that I will honor that relationship by working tirelessly on each case as if I were the person accused.
Do you believe in a second chance? Frankly, it is required in order to do my job and do it effectively. To be a criminal defense lawyer I must inherently believe in and see the good in people and treat them with respect, despite the criminal charges they face. Unfortunately, good people make bad decisions and fail to act at all times with the best judgment. Everyone can make a mistake, and I truly believe a person should not be punished for a lifetime because of one error or out of character event. Sometimes the first mistake is a huge mistake. It is my responsibility to defend that person with everything I have and draw upon my legal training, skill set, life and trial experiences and professional relationships to achieve the best possible results for my clients.
I have never worked for law enforcement nor have I been a former prosecutor. For 25 years I have cut my path on the private criminal defense side of the courtroom table, and I am very proud of the results I have achieved for my clients.
