Jun 19, 2019OUTCOME: Conviction reversed by the Minnesota Supreme Court
Client was prosecuted for posting several non-threatening public tweets about a classmate. I argued the prosecution violated the client's right to freedom of speech and that the specific laws violated ... the First Amendment. The District court denied our motions to dismiss and the client was convicted at trial. The Court of Appeals upheld the District Court decisions. I took the case to the Minnesota Supreme Court and won. The Supreme Court declared the laws unconstitutional, overturned the decisions by the District Court and Court of Appeals and reversed the client's convictions.
