Beware

I hired Matt for two closely related things for a flat rate. I did most the “leg work”, and begged him to file one appeal. During the appeal he didn’t even have facts straight and I did most the talking from my notes. When the second issue came to light he stated I would need to pay him more. I disag...reed and he stated he would need to check my file and get back to me. Contact ceased with him, even though I called multiple times, until I emailed him demanding a refund for lack of services. He then stated he never asked for more money, but subsequently in a later email stated he quoted me another flat fee for services. This never happened. He basically called me a liar at every point in our communication. He has failed to provide services that I have paid for. He did not stand up for me the way that he said he would in our consultation. He allowed me to be walked all over. I am in the process of reporting him to the bar association for ethics violations. His wife also like to get involved with client relations and be ignorant and snarky.

I understand the above concerns and regret that the client relationship has broken down in this way. We were hired to aid this client in one particular type of case, and we charged a flat fee for that one case. We had a full administrative hearing and were successful - We won! We were available to the client for phone calls, emails, and other hearings. The client only asked for a refund and began complaining about the service she received after the client learned that they would have to pay more money for new and different services. Again, we regret that things ended this way, especially on a successful case. This was a misunderstanding about the flat fee that we charge. It is a flat fee for each case, not a flat fee for several different cases.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
