Oct 23, 2015OUTCOME: $2.2 Million Verdict
New Castle, PA – On 23 October 2015, the Pennsylvania personal injury law firm, Dallas W. Hartman, P.C., obtained a $2.2 million verdict on behalf of a 75-year-old Mercer County woman for injuries she ... sustained in a 2009 car collision. This verdict is the second largest in the history of Mercer County. In 2009, a resident of Stoneboro, Pennsylvania was driving south on State Route 173 between Grove City and Mercer, Pennsylvania. At the same time, a Venango County man was heading north. The northbound vehicle made a sudden left turn, to enter a business’ driveway, in front of the victim’s car causing her a collision. Following the collision, the victim was rushed via medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Youngstown, OH. She sustained multiple fractured bones, including two broken legs, a broken left forearm, right wrist and left ankle, along with suffering a serious closed-head injury. Due to the severity of her injuries, and her inability to fully recover from those injuries she needed to be placed in a residential care facility where she was going to have to spend the rest of her life; that is until now. The jury’s verdict will ensure that the victim can now return home to be with her family and receive the ongoing care that the treatment of her injuries require. During trial, the Pennsylvania car accident attorneys at Dallas W. Hartman, P.C. called several medical witnesses on behalf of the injured victim. The various medical witnesses all confirmed the type of distressing effect that an accident of this magnitude had and still has, both physically and mentally, on the victim. The attorneys also called a physical therapist, who regularly treats the patient, to describe the type of therapy that is required to prevent the victim’s physical limitations from worsening. A Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, retained by the firm, provided testimony at trial as to the range of future care that the victim will require as well as the financial costs associated with that future care. The testimony presented at trial demonstrated and explained to the jury what the actual physical harms and economic losses were that the victim sustained as a result of the defendant driver’s conduct.
