Esther Collado was admitted to The Medical Resort in Albuquerque, NM in June, 2013 for rehabilitation following a hip fracture. She developed bilateral pressure injuries on her heels. The left heel b ... ecame infected. Esther developed sepsis which caused metabolic encephalopathy and the inability to swallow. Esther had a PEG tube inserted. After several months of hospitalizations, the pressure sores healed but she was never able to walk again. A jury concluded that the pressure sores were a cause of her death.
