The employee alleged that the city discriminated against him in the terms and conditions of his employmen ... t, and later terminated his employment, in retaliation for him reporting that a manager was stealing goods and services from the city. Jens was successful in obtaining a dismissal of three of five claims before trial. After an eight-day trial on the other two claims, the jury returned a verdict for the city on one of the claims, and the judge returned a decision for the city on the other.

Jens defended an Oregon city and a city police officer in a federal civil rights lawsuit in which the plaintiff alleged that the police officer had used unreasonable force in arresting him by tasing hi ... m while he was climbing over a fence in an attempt to escape. Jens was successful in obtaining a dismissal prior to trial for the claim against the city. After a four-day trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of the police officer.
OUTCOME: Decision against some public officials; not others.
Public officials were alleged to have violated Public Meetings Law. In a case of first impression, the judge ruled that some of the officials were found to have violated the law through "serial meeting ... s," even though the officials never met outside a public meeting in a quorum.
