The case was brought to the Supreme Court by our adversary, challenging a trial court judgment and an appellate af ... firmance in our favor dismissing a wrongful discharge lawsuit -- and arrived before the Court at the crest of a growing national wave of such litigation, stimulated greatly by California decisions in employees' favor which had notably expanded costly tort litigation against employers by terminated employees, For such reasons, the Los Angeles Times referred to Foley as the most anticipated Supreme Court case of the decade. We persuaded the California Supreme Court to reject tort liability on the two most widely-used theories, a significant victory not only for our client but for the business community at large.
