Donald W. Obrien

Donald ("Dan") W. O’Brien, Jr. is a partner in the firm and Chair of the Litigation Department and a member of the Health Care Group. His practice is concentrated in general business and civil litigation including products liability, health care and environmental law. Mr. O’Brien has considerable trial experience in both state and federal courts and has handled a number of appeals before the New York State Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. His specialties include product liability, intellectual property and business litigation. He has handled a wide variety of environmental cases involving zoning, planning, water resource and other land use issues. Mr. O’Brien also has experience in health care litigation, including medical malpractice actions and physician disciplinary proceedings.

 

Mr. O’Brien received his J.D. degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law and his B.A. degree, cum laude, from the State University of New York at Geneseo. He also served for two years as a law assistant to the Hon. Frederick D. Dugan and the Hon. Daniel A. DePasquale of the Yates and Seneca County Courts.

 

Community Involvement:

Mr. O'Brien currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Geneseo Alumni Association. Mr. O’Brien was President of the Association for nine years and, most recently, served as an Alumni Association representative on the Vice Presidential Search Committee. Mr. O'Brien is a member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society of Rochester, Inc.. He is a past President and member of the Board of Directors of Canandaigua Lake Pure Waters, Ltd. and served on the Board of Trustees for Geva Theatre.

 

Bar Admissions:

Mr. O’Brien is admitted to practice before the Courts of New York State, the United States District Court for the Western and Northern Districts of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. A member of the Ontario and Monroe County Bar Associations, he is also a member of the New York State Bar Association.
