OUTCOME: Client was able to enforce terms of contract and received full payment

My client had created a website for its customer; however, the customer would not agree that the site was completed, and thus, withheld payment. We brought a claim in small claims court, but the custom ... er was still able to utilize the website to generate business while we waited for our court date. Using the tools available under U.S. and international copyright law, we were able to have the unauthorized website shut down. The loss of the site prompted the customer to resolve the matter quickly, and my client was paid in full.

OUTCOME: The case was finally settled after over two years of litigation.

My client had hired an attorney to file and pursue a trademark and patent application for the company's newest product line. The attorney failed to meet deadlines and the applications were ultimately d ... eemed abandoned. The client was not notified for over four years. During that time, the client did not have the benefit of exclusive use of its products or its brand name, and suffered significant losses. We brought a case for breach of contract and malpractice against the attorney. For over two years, I worked with a litigation specialist to craft the complaint, draft discovery requests, respond to discovery requests and work on the overall strategy to resolve the case in favor of my client.

My client hired the plaintiff to work for the company as an independent contractor to perform certain tasks on behalf of the company. The plaintiff chose to leave the company, and brought suit for unpa ... id wages. In defending the suit, the client discovered that the plaintiff had been using the contact information provided by the company for personal gain.

OUTCOME: Case settled

When a movie/television studio releases a new picture or tv show, a press kit is created that includes information about the show, various pre-written articles, and a set of slides for use in magazines ... and other promotional media. In a case brought by 20th Century Fox, the defendant was using the images from the press kit to create unauthorized merchandise, such as calendars, posters, picture books, etc. However, as the case when on, it appeared that the photographers may have provided some alternate images to a third party. The question was ownership of these alternate images that may or may not have been part of a protected "press kit." As part of the litigation team, we had to resolve the ownership issues, match up the images to the unauthorized material, and ensure that there were no implied or other licenses allowing the reproduction of the copyrighted images.
