Criminal Prosecution for Unlawful Maintaining of an Unsafe Building. Mr. Bruce refused to repair his unoccupied residential structure that was damaged by a fire. Mr. Bruce represented him in a jury tr ... ial during which Judge Celeste C' de Baca held Mr. Bruce in direct contempt of court. The jury convicted Mr. Bruce. The Judge sentenced Mr. Bruce to a $500 fine for the building code violation but imposed 10 days in jail for the contempt conviction. Mr. Bruce appealed the convictions through the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, but the convictions and judge's finding of contempt was upheld.
