Thomas J. Hickey

Thomas J. Hickey joined Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP in 2014, bringing with him more than thirty years of experience concentrated in litigation, wills, probate, elder law and real estate law. Tom started his practice as an associate with the Binghamton law firm of Kramer, Wales & McAvoy in 1976. In 1979 he was made a full partner in that firm.

Tom’s practice started out almost solely devoted to litigation. He has represented plaintiffs, defendants and insurance companies and continues to do so until this day. Over the course of time, he has developed an interest in other areas of the law including real estate, wills, probate and elder law.

Tom is a graduate of Binghamton University and Pepperdine University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in all New York State Courts and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York.

Tom is a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and Broome County Bar Association. He has served on a number of committees for the Broome County Bar Association including chairing its Insurance Committee. Most recently, he was a member of the Broome County Bar Association’s Judicial Candidate Committee.
Tom, a Binghamton native, is a 1964 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Binghamton. From 1967 to 1969 he served in the United States Army. His service included a tour of duty in Germany.

Tom has been married to the former Ellen Vaughan since 1974. Ellen is a retired Binghamton City School teacher. Tom and Ellen have three children; Patrick, Kevin and Karen. Tom and Ellen are active at St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church. Tom still enjoys playing basketball but advancing years have turned his focus more to golf.
