Timothy R. Johnson

Timothy R. Johnson joined Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP in January, 2015. Tim is Special Counsel to the firm in the Oneonta, NY office. Tim practices in the areas of business and corporate, electronic cooperatives and utilities, nonprofit, municipal, residential and commercial real estate, estate planning and administration, trusts, elder law and Medicaid planning, guardianships and adoption.

Previously, Tim operated a general private practice in Morris and Edmeston for over 27 years. From May 2012 to December 2014 Tim served as Deputy Chief Member Counsel at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in Arlington, Virginia. Tim assisted electric cooperatives with matters related to general cooperative law, corporate governance, intellectual property, consumer protection, federal communications policy, data policy, data privacy and security, and records management practices, and as corporate counsel to a national marketing alliance of 750 member cooperatives. Additionally, Tim contributed to NERCA’s monthly Legal Reporting Service and spoke at various conferences, seminars and meetings regarding electric cooperative legal issues.

Tim graduated from Albany Law School in 1985. He received his Master’s in Public Policy from University of Rochester in 1981. He also received a Bachelor’s in Economics and Political Science in 1980.

Tim is a member of the Otsego County, New York State and American Bar Associations and the Electric Cooperative Bar Association. He is a past President of the Edmeston Rotary Club, a former Trustee of Friends of Bassett Healthcare and a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in New Berlin, NY. He currently serves as a Director of Otsego Mutual Fire Insurance.
