OUTCOME: L.E. dismissed, no probable cause; R.M. evidence suppressed and dismissed

R.M. had a large flea market booth, and was alleged to have sold fake designer handbags, Ugg boots, and the like. Police "persuaded" him to "permissively" search his store, by threatening to "take" hi ... s then fiance, L.E., as well as himself. She happened to be visiting him at the time, and was not actually working at the store. She was charged the next day, anyhow, and with a felony, to boot.

OUTCOME: Won at trial, won on appeal, settled with DSS

Son was abused by adoptive father. Sued adoptive father and Department of Social Services. Settled with D.S.S. for $35K, Judgement against adoptive father for $250K, $370k with interest. Adoptive fat ... her appealed and lost the appeal.

U.S. v. Thomas Shay

OUTCOME: Convicted of lesser offence

Tom Shay was (in my opinion) wrongly convicted of some charges (and acquitted of others) arising from the death of one and maiming of another member of the Boston Police Bomb Squad, after a bomb found ... at his father's house detonated. I was the original specially appointed Federal Defender, later joined by the Hon. Nancy Gertner, who was nominated to the Federal Bench while the trial was still in process. Mr. Shay ultimately served about seven years; his co-defendant,Albert Trenkler, tried separately (I did not represent him) received a life sentence without parole, in a worse travesty of justice. Neither of them did it.
