Both clients falsely charged with Assault With a Deadly Weapon Upon a Peace Officer, Battery, Obstruction of Justice and other charges when the Bell Gardens Police Officer Michael Cox (gang unit office...r) punched Mr. Cazares in the chest without provocation.
Mr. Cazares was a saleman who was having a Halloween Party when the police arrived to shut it down. Mr. Cazares assisted other officers in disbursing his guests , when a frustrated Officer Cox punched Mr. Cazares in the chest.
Manuel Moreno was home with his wife drinking tea, eating a cookie and watching television when he heard yelling coming from outside his house. When his father-in-law, Manuel Moreno, came out of his home, he saw his son-in-law, Gerardo being kicked and punched by several other officers.
When he tried to tell the officers to stop beating him and attempted to aid Gerardo, they held him and shot him with a bean bag shot gun from a close distance and whipped him with their batons while all theif family members watched - women and children.
Mr. Cazares was also shot with a pellat gun, at close range, then falsely arrested in order to cover up the officer's acts.
After their acquital, Mr. Cazares and Mr. Moreno sued the Bell Gardens Police Department and won $4.5 million dollars.
