Details: In March 2001, Carlos Chomat, then 33, was working as a machine operator in Southneastern Paper Products Export Inc.’s Miami plant. As Chomat was making sure the paper fed into a machine in a ... straight line, his left hand become caught. In trying to free his hand, two fingers on his right hand also became entangled in the machine. Chomat lost seven fingers in the accident. On June 8, the case settled for $8.5 millon, which included attorneys' fees and other costs. Two-thirds will be paid by Northern, with the remainder to be paid by Seitlin. Chomat and his wife will receive $5.5 million in a lump sum immediately, with the remainder to be paid in installments.
