Jeffrey S. Badgley, representing the owner of a small business in the Central Florida area, settled a claim against the attorney who was retained to prepare the closing documents for the purchase of th ... e business. The lawyer failed to make proper arrangements to resolve outstanding liens for unpaid sales and unemployment taxes. As a result, the business owner acquired her business assets with a lien for the unpaid taxes, became liable to the Florida Department of Revenue for unpaid sales taxes, and suffered damage to her business. Our client recovered damages for the tax liability and other business losses caused by the tax liens. The case settled during a presuit mediation and no lawsuit was necessary.
