This case resulted from one of the largest federal, state, and local task forces ever assembled to investigate a series of crimes. It was described by U.S. Department of Justice officials as the one o ... f the most significant firearms cases prosecuted from 1991 through 1993. Rolling was convicted, by jury verdict, of firearms and bank robbery charges. At the time of his trial, Rolling was the chief suspect in the brutal slaying of five University of Florida students which shocked the nation in Fall of 1990. After a week long trial, Rolling was convicted of using force, violence, and intimidation to rob the First Union National Bank in Gainesville, Florida, on August 27, 1990, and of using a handgun during the commission of the bank robbery. The robbery took place on the same day the bodies of two of the murder victims were found several blocks from the bank. Mr. Rolling was tried before the Honorable Maurice M. Paul (Chief U.S. District Judge, Northern District of Florida) and a jury from March 16 through March 23, 1992. The jury returned guilty verdicts on all charges. I served as lead counsel in the investigation and prosecution of the federal case against Rolling.
