OUTCOME: Citizenship approved
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services initially denied the citizenship application because of a past crime committed by the person. The person did not have a lawyer at the time. The person then bec ... ame a client. We were able to show the Client's crime was tied to the mental disorder and that citizenship was deserved. The Client is now a U.S. Citizen.
OUTCOME: Deportation risk avoided
The client was a permanent resident who wanted to become a U.S. citizen and came to us for an evaluation. We learned the client had been convicted of a drug felony 10 years earlier and wanted to visit ... family in Mexico. As soon as the federal government learned about the conviction from his citizenship application, the client would have been placed into deportation proceedings or not allowed back in the country after a trip to Mexico. We found errors in the drug conviction and were able to reopen the drug case. While it is very uncommon to get a change of this degree, we were actually able to get the conviction changed from a drug felony to a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct which does not result in deportation or other immigratioin consequences.
OUTCOME: Green Card Granted
A Canadian National married a U.S. citizen. Both were professionals accustomed to paperwork but they could not get their petitions and applications accepted. Mr. Mesa was able to help get the applicati ... ons accepted and represent them at the interview where the Canadian citizen was granted a green card.
