This case was one of the first cases sentenced under the then-new Sentencing Guidelines. Despite two prior offenses that were minor drug-related offenses, the 24 year old, brain damaged defendant was ... sentenced to life imprisonment. Ten years later, defendant contacted me and, based on unusual circumstances, I filed a Motion to Reduce Sentence and Willis' sentence was reduced to "time served."

Defendant was serving a fvery lengthy federal sentence for drugs. I filed a Habeas Corpus Petition based on ineffective assistance of counsel owing to conflict and ineffectiveness. Despite the prohib ... ition in the Rules, I developed a record that allowed me to ask for discovery. Extensive discovery requests were granted by the court, and dixcovery proceeded for almost 3 years.

Hearings were held and evidence presented to the court. For its time, this case stood as precedent in the 11th Circuit regarding ineffectiveness of counsel.
