Few years ago, I represented a young 14-year old boy who was brought into the US illegally in a desperate measure to avoid his stepfather who beat him repeatedly and gangs who bullied and beat him, trying to get him to join their gang in his home country. He ended up in Orlando immigration court in a removal proceeding; after much legal research and digging, I discovered he was eligible for relief under 245(i) of the Immigration Nationality Act, a complex little known relief that is difficult to prove. After an uphill battle involving 3 court hearings and obtaining the Department of Homeland Security attorney's concession to the relief I sought in court and a challenging USCIS interview, he and his family finally became permanent residents!
