My client got a ride from his ex-wife after spending some time with their children. There was an argument and my client supposedly punched his ex-wife while their children were in the back seat. The ... police believed the ex-wife and did not bother to carefully interview the children. The ex-wife testified at trial and embellished the story she had told to the police. My client testified that he had just tried to stop his ex-wife from hitting him and had left the car at the earliest possibility.

The DA offered an assault as a plea bargain for what had been an accident. My client wanted to go to trial, so we did. The ex testified that she never saw him throw the bowl at her. My client testified that he threw the bowl at the table and stormed off. The jury agreed that it was just an accident. The jury returned a not guilty verdict.

My client was charged with hitting a police officer and resisting arrest. My client had parked his car outside an apartment building where he had gone to visit some friends. The sidewalk outside th ... e building was a gang hangout. Officers of the gang task force were dispersing the gang members that evening and were looking into cars. My client went out to the sidewalk and started asking the officers why they were looking into his car. They said he was yelling at them and swearing at them to leave his car alone. Two officers walked up to him and confronted him. One decided to arrest him and followed him as he went into an alleyway behind the apartment building. That officer said that my client tried to tackle him and tried to take his firearm. Two officers proceeded to beat the tar out of my client, dislocating his shoulder and giving him some nerve damage in the process. Both officers weighed about two hundred pounds and were pretty muscular. My client's friend called the police to tell them that the police were beating the crap out of his friend. Neighbors testified that they saw two big guys beating on someone with sticks. My client testified that he tried to get away after the first officer got really mad and got in his face. He said the officer hit him in the head and then kneed him in the chest as he fell. After that, he just felt them pounding him as he curled up into a fetal position. The jury didn't believe the officers and acquitted my client.
