Mr. Abbott began his legal professional career as a paralegal in the Early Case Assessment Bureau in the New York County District Attorney's Office. While there he interviewed thousands of police officers about the circumstances of their arrests and subsequently drafted thousands of accusatory instruments to commence the prosecution of those arrested. This experience taught him to focus on the element's of each crime and the defendant's commission of same. This experience carries with him to this day as he has applied these skills to countless successful motions to dismiss criminal charges prior to trial as well as successful arguments for dismissal or lesser charges at trial.
Upon graduating from St. John's University School of Law, he began work as a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County. While there he defended thousands of indigent defendants on criminal charges ranging from violations to felonies. After two years and a number of trials he took a new position at Reynolds, Caronia, Gianelli & La Pinta, LLP.
This firm has a diverse practice including personal injury, matrimonial, and criminal law. Working directly with two well respected criminal defense attorneys Mr. Abbott continued to develop his skills as a litigator and advocate. He makes daily court appearances and conducts numerous hearings and trials throughout the courts of the state of New York. Additionally he has handled some appellate work, writing successful briefs and delivering successful oral arguments at the Appellate Term, Appellate Division, and Court of Appeals.
