James LiCalzi, a partner at Duffy & Duffy, is a seasoned civil litigator with years of experience who concentrates on representing catastrophically injured individuals in both complex medical malpractice and significant personal injury cases.
In addition to representing clients from the initial stages of discovery through trial, LiCalzi also represents clients in the appellate courts.
Prior to joining Duffy & Duffy in 2001, he was associated for five years with one of the largest medical malpractice and personal injury defense firms on Long Island.
LiCalzi is a frequent lecturer on a wide variety of topics for fellow legal professionals, including trial preparation , taking and preparing for depositions and on the analysis of medical records and issues. He has been a lecturer for the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association and the National Business Institute. He serves on the board of the Nassau-Suffolk Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the American Association for Justice, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Nassau County Bar Association.
LiCalzi earned a bachelor’s degree in government from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1991, and his law degree from St. John’s University School of Law in 1993.
LiCalzi, who comes from a family of physicians, said he enjoys analyzing the various different medical issues that arise during the course of representing his clients. “I enjoy delving into the technical aspects of medicine and then applying them to the facts in a particular case.”
