A Costly and Disappointing Experience

I hired Mitchell Klein to represent me in a divorce involving a jointly owned business, and my experience was extremely disappointing. From the beginning, I felt there was a lack of transparency regarding both communication and billing. I was often left out of important discussions and never felt I ...had a clear understanding of what was happening with my case. There also seemed to be no clear strategy, which was particularly concerning given the complexity of a divorce involving a business. One of the most frustrating aspects of the representation was being told that he did not really understand the business side of the legal issues involved in my case. Because this was such an important component of the divorce, I hired a separate business attorney and provided Mitchell with that attorney’s contact information. If he had questions or needed guidance regarding the business-related issues, he had a knowledgeable resource available to him. To my knowledge, however, he never contacted that attorney, and I felt that the business aspects of my case were largely ignored rather than properly addressed. The billing practices were another major issue. I was charged significant amounts of money, but the invoices often contained vague descriptions such as “communications” without sufficient detail to understand exactly what work had been performed. There was even an invoice that I never received, which resulted in my initial retainer being depleted without my knowledge. Overall, I spent a substantial amount of money and felt that very little was accomplished on my behalf. I did not receive the communication, guidance, transparency, or strategic representation that I expected when hiring an attorney. My experience left me feeling frustrated and unsupported, and I would not recommend his services based on my experience.
