As a business lawyer: I help companies structure their deals to protect themselves in the event the other party runs into financial problems or files for bankruptcy. And, if the party they did business with does file for bankruptcy, I help them recover their money. I also help companies who run into financial problems restructure their debts out of court or, if necessary, in a bankruptcy. Unrelated to bankruptcy, I help companies with their routine legal problems and find them the right specialist for their more unique problems. When I find them specialists, I often supervise the work and billing to make sure they are getting great service and are billed fairly. In essence I act as their "outside" general counsel. I also help other professionals, such as accountants, or other attorneys who have conflicts or don't have the right expertise, find competent attorneys for their clients' needs, either in my firm or other firms. My goal is for their clients to thank them for getting me involved to help solve their problems. I also help both banks and commercial borrowers negotiate, document and close loans. Finally, I am a professionally trained mediator. I help bring parties to settlement so they can avoid the expense and uncertainty of litigation.
