John R. Depaola

John R. DePaola, Esq. is the managing partner of the firm, and has been practicing law for over 30 years starting his legal career in 1982 as an Assistant District Attorney in theBronx District Attorney’s Office. While in the Bronx District Attorney’s Office he handled thousands of cases in his 4 plus years career as a prosecutor. While in the Criminal Court and Supreme Court Bureau, Mr. DePaola tried twenty 27 felony jury cases to verdict, winning over 75% of them, and tried 6 misdemeanor jury cases to verdict.

After leaving the Bronx District Attorney’s Office in 1986, Mr. DePaola became a founding partner in Papa, Menillo and DePaola, which later became Papa, Menillo, DePaola & Brounstein, and since 1988 was known as Papa, DePaola & Brounstein.  In September, 2014, Mr. DePaola started the firm as it is known today, John R. DePaola & Associates, PLLC.

Since 1987, Mr. DePaola has been involved in a civil rights practice that concentrates on police civil liability including false arrests, malicious prosecution, assault, battery, and excessive force cases. Mr. DePaola is one of the few trial attorneys that have tried both civil and criminal cases to verdict. It should also be noted that Mr. DePaola, as a criminal defenseattorney, tried over 75 felony and misdemeanor criminal actions to a jury verdict. Thirteen of those trials involved charges of murder in the second degree; and with respect to those murder trials, Mr. DePaola secured seven outright acquittals and six beneficial verdicts convicting the defendants of only the lesser charge of manslaughter, with no clients being convicted of the top count of murder in the second degree after trial.   Mr. DePaola has secured multi-million dollar trial verdicts and settlements in false arrest, malicious prosecution, and excessive force cases.  He has won MILLIONS in verdicts and settlements for his clients.
