After an election for leadership of the Republican Party of Los Angeles County, the results of which were contested by the losing candidates, those losing candidates sued the party and its officers see ... king to be awarded the offices, all money raised by the duly elected officers and committee, and seeking to forbid the officers from holding themselves out as officers, from operating a website, and from calling meetings on behalf of the county party. Dhillon & Smith LLP answered the complaint, denied its allegations, and filed a a special motion to strike on First Amendment grounds (better known as an "anti-SLAPP motion." The court granted the motion and dismissed the lawsuit, ruling also that a motion for a preliminary injunction filed by plaintiffs was moot.
