He began his legal career after earning his B.A. in Philosophy with a minor in Political Science from Hofstra University. He went on to earn his J.D. from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra, graduating in the top third of his class. While there, he studied under Professor Robert A. Baruch Bush, one of the key figures behind the Transformative Mediation model, and received a Citation of Excellence in Tort Law.
