Donald Robert Dunn Jr

I am a solo practitioner in the Bronx, where I have lived for almost a decade and where my children were born.  I am committed to serving my community and my neighbors, both in and out of the courtroom.  In my twelve years of experience practicing law, I have honed the skills necessary to zealously advocate for my clients in court and to thoughtfully advise my clients on transactional matters and potential disputes so they do not have to go to court.  

My community work includes serving on the board of directors of the Bronx Documentary Center and of the Mott Haven-Port Morris Community Land Stewards.  Prior to law school, my research and teaching experience in connection with my doctoral work in microbiology prepared me to carefully analyze complex legal issue and to effectively educate my clients about their legal issues. 

When I am not parenting, practicing law, or volunteering in my community, most of my free time is spent on my bicycle riding approximately 2,000 miles a year in and around New York City.

I engage in a general practice with an emphasis on litigation, including trial and appellate practice.  My practice areas include real estate and other commercial matters, election law, not-for-profit law, and civil rights claims.  My clients include the following:

 ·      property owners who I represent in construction defect matters adverse to contractors, in landlord-tenant matters adverse to both commercial and residential tenants, in Article 78 proceedings adverse to HPD or other governmental agencies, in foreclosure matters adverse to lenders, and in residential real estate contracts and closings;

 ·      brokers and contractors who I represent in connection with contract claims, including mechanic’s lien and broker’s commission matters;

 ·      not-for-profit institutions who I represent in matters relating to corporate formation, governance, and applications for tax exemption under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code;

 ·      cooperative and condominium boards who I represent in matters relating to governance and to disputes with contractors or unit owners;

 ·      candidates for public office who I represent in connection with the preparation and filing of Designating Petitions, administrative proceedings before the Board of Elections, and in judicial proceedings before the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, and Court of Appeals;

 ·      small business owners who I represent in connection with forming and operating a corporation or LLC and in disputes relating to intellectual property; and

 ·      community members who I represent in connection with landlord-tenant disputes, civil rights claims such as police misconduct, and criminal summons for violations stemming from public participation and community advocacy.
