Worst experience I've ever had with an attorney

I am a person who spent many years as a tenant activist in NYC. I thought I knew the laws but realized my family and I were being scammed by our landlord when I became very ill and had t apply for a government aid program. I filed a complaint with DHCR, but received an absurd pro landlord response. I... then sought an attorney to file an Article 78 for me. I spoke to various low income legal services but many are now only being funded for evictions or have to handle those first because they are the most dire situations. One of them told me they would handle the Article 78 but the cases were handled in the order received. It didn't seem likely that they would get to mine in the 60 days allowed (no adjournments). I was given advise by a few of these attorneys to seek a sole practioner who would handle the case on contingency, since the DHCR decision made no sense and they felt that it was likely that I would win the case. With my being ill a friend gave me a short list of some sole practioners. I contacted all on the same day in mid June. The first and most desirable, due to his extensive experience, explained quickly that he had a conflict of interest. The second said she was now working with her husband and they no longer took contingency cases. The third let me know that he had just been taken on by a larger law firm but he looked everything over, spoke with me extensively on the matter, gave me positive feedback and then spoke to the partners at the firm. As all big law firms, the partners told him they would take the case but needed a $3,000 retainer. He was kind and apologized. Then there was Ari Mor. I called and left message on various days but didn't hear back. I tried again a week later on 6/21 and he actually answered, quickly told me I could email all the case information and got off the phone. I immediately emailed everything & didn't hear back. I called & left messages and sent a text on 6/27. Finally, on 6/28 he emails stating, "Can we speak tomorrow afternoon". I wrote back letting him know that I would be having medical therapy & asked if we could speak in the evening instead. He didn't respond. When I came home from the doctor I felt very ill and tried to email him again. I asked, " Can we speak some time tomorrow". He didn't respond and when I called the next day there was no answer. I tried to call his # numerous times but never received any call back. On 7/7 I texted again and he responded stating that he had been on vacation. He claimed that we had had a time to speak but that I never called. He texted back, "I usually assume that if I am not able to correspond back timely other counsel will be pursued." i then asked if he had ever looked over my documents. He responds, "I had which is why we had scheduled the last call time." (We had no call time scheduled). What is texted after was disturbing which. He texted first, "I was contemplating your request to take the matter on contingency basis." Then, "I'm unable todo that at the moment." Then, "I don't work on Contingency. My fee for Article 78 is $5k & 25%." Followed by, "My fees are set & there are many people happy to pay them for my work. I urge you to read my Yelp reviews." ( Yes he actually wrote this!) Then he went on sending 5 more babbling text to me and then a last one that stated, "I had asked a few of my colleagues if they were interested in picking up your matter on contingency & I had no response btw." It was coo coo crazy, mean, and creepy all at the same time. Do you think his reviews are real? My opinion is NO. The fact is that attorney don't usually get many reviews. Maybe 1-3 at the most over a period of 10 years. This guy is wet behind the years, just 4 years out of school and can't make a phone call. There are many great attorneys with long careers and absolutely no reviews, because an attorney is not the sort of business that most people write reviews about. I certainly wouldn't have thought to do it if he hadn't texted my about Yelp.

Best Housing Attorney

I worked with Mr. Mor on a case where I was wrongfully accused of illegally evicting my former roommate. The process required several virtual court appearances and took several months to conclude. Throughout the process, Mr. Mor showed remarkable professionalism and knowledge, which eventually led to... the case being withdrawn by the petitioner. His calm demeanor while the petitioner was making all sorts of false claims against me and Mr. Mor was impressive, and so was the strong display of his confidence. When the judge incorrectly rejected the affidavit submitted by Mr. Mor, Mr. Mor told the judge directly that she made a wrong decision, and promptly filed a motion to reargue the judge’s decision, which made the judge realize the mistake she made and eventually led to the withdrawal by the petitioner. The interactions I had with Mr. Mor were pleasant, and I found out before long that Mr. Mor is a caring person. I would highly recommend Mr. Mor to anyone in the matters related to housing.
