You don't say what your friend plead guilty to so there is no way to answer your question. It is possible that your friend plead guilty to a crime...

If arrested for a felony but not infront of grand jury does the 6 month time frame still qualify for speedy trial rules.

If the police weren't called at the time, it is unlikely the store is pressing charges. I've never seen a case in NYC where the police were called...
